Nursery

Your supposed to finish the Nursery before the baby gets here but we haven't felt very settled till now so I unintentionally ended up doing my DD's entire room.  Whoops! It was supposed to just be painted, then I was supposed to just hang a few things, then I was just supposed to rearrange the furniture.  Two and half months later and it's finally done!

This was her original room. (I didn't pick that green paint color it was already there.)

View on the other side of her old room.

I decided to move her into this room, and move her brother into another room.  This room doesn't pick up as much sound and she's a light sleeper.  Anyway I hadn't done anything to the room...obviously.  Her brothers rooms are my next projects.

Another view.

I don't have any early on pictures but oh well.  This was my first attempt.  It wasn't working for me.  The tissue poms are cute but they weren't giving the feeling I wanted.  That art to the right was my inspiration for the room.  I wanted softness and a feeling of being in a dream.  The poms came down and I brainstormed!

I decided trees would be pretty.  Aspen/Birch like trees.  I found a little tutorial at this blog

The taping and tape cutting took the longest.

I didn't paint the trees in very heavy.  I wanted to avoid having them look solid and perfect.

Then I started fixing and painting on more branches.

This really was my favorite part.

I rearranged the furniture about six times total.

It drove  me crazy that there were all these trees and branches yet her name was just floating on the wall!

Thinking I was done for a day.

We get enough Winter where I live so I wanted to make it feel less stark.  The green leaves were pretty but too realistic for my "dream" room.

Love these real birch candle holders from this etsy shop
And done!

These scrapbooking butterflies I got at Joanne's for like $3 a package and I bought like 3 or 4 sets.   I love how they are so subtle but add so much.

The mobile I made.

I spray painted the lamp, dresser knobs,  Dream sign, and her name letters. One can of "Ballerina Slipper " Pink spray paint!

I really love it.  I feel like the tree's branches give the illusion of no corners...like the room is bigger then it is or something.

I wasn't planning on doing trees all the way over this far but like I said earlier, the free floating name was bugging me.  I just free handed these trees and they are actually my favorite out of all of them.  I sort of wish I had free handed all of them.

The inspiration. "Hope is a waking dream." Print is from http://www.kellimurray.com/

Another Kelli Murray print.  I plan to eventually put it in a square frame, next time I'm at Michaels.  I adore this print though!

I dripped white and lavender paint down these, the solid pink was too...solid.  I like the surreal-ness of the paint drips.

Well there it is.  I love how it turned out, I love walking into her room cus I feel like I'm walking into another world.  I hope to add more details to the mural eventually... a spiderweb here and there, details on the leaves, etc.  If you are wondering why I didn't follow the theme of her actually crib bedding...it's because she'll be out of a crib within a year.  Planning ahead I want to get her bedding like this or this or this, you get the point.
